What is gum disease ?
Gum disease is a very common condition where the gums become swollen, sore or infected. Did you know that gum disease is the number one cause of tooth lose in adults but is less common in children. There are two main forms of gum disease:
gingivitis and periodontal disease.
Gingivitis
Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums. This is when the gums around the teeth become very red and swollen. Often the swollen gums bleed when they are brushed during cleaning. If gingivitis is not treated, a condition called periodontitis can develop…….
Periodontitis
This affects the tissues that support teeth and hold them in place. If periodontitis is then not treated, the bone in your jaw can decay and small spaces can open up between the gum and teeth. Your teeth can become loose and may eventually fall out.
