Parrock Dental and Implant Centre may recommend patients have orthodontics in Kent before perfecting their smile through the use of crowns and veneers. This is the most conservative method of straightening up a smile and really doesn’t take that long to complete. Afterwards it may just take one or two crowns or veneers to perfect the results. One way to do this is to have the restorations made at our dental laboratory, a process that typically require two or more visits to Parrock Street, and which can take a couple of weeks or longer to complete. Another method is to choose CEREC technology that allows the crowns to be made chairside, while you wait, so can leave our surgery with your smile fully completed.
CEREC crowns have been widely used for a number of years now, and can provide strong, long lasting restorations that match your natural teeth. Instead of having an impression, Dr Rik Trivedi will scan your teeth and will custom design your crown using the latest digital technology. This information is then sent wirelessly to the milling machine that is located on the premises. The crown is milled from a single ingot of porcelain that has been pre-selected to closely match your natural tooth colour and translucency. Once the crown is completed then it is finished by being characterised, stained and polished or glazed. The final step is to fit the CEREC crown to make sure it is perfect before cementing it in place. The end result will be a beautiful, natural crown that fits perfectly due to the computerised technology used to create it. It is made from a material which is not only strong, but which is also designed to move and flex with the tooth, minimising the chance of any tooth fractures in the future. It is a very conservative dental treatment as it preserves as much of the healthy tooth structure as possible.
CEREC isn’t just used to create crowns, as it is also excellent for producing inlays, onlays and veneers. It is a great product, but isn’t suitable for every case as sometimes you may get better results by waiting a while and having your restorations hand-crafted at our dental laboratory. If we think this is the case we will definitely tell you!
