Dental Veneers Versus Orthodontics in Kent

Jun 4, 2013 | Orthodontics

Are you considering cosmetic dentistry to improve your smile? If so then you may be thinking of having veneers fitted to improve the overall look of your teeth. Get Veneers in Kent which is a great cosmetic dental treatment as they can be used to hide minor imperfections or to change the overall colour of your teeth. They are sometimes used to straighten up slightly crooked teeth, and although they are excellent at doing so, this may not always be the best way to get a straighter smile.

Which is better, Veneers or a Brace?

If your teeth are a nice shape, and are not discoloured in any way but are merely out of alignment, then you may be better off having them straightened up using invisible orthodontics in Kent. Parrock Dental and Implant Centre can offer patients several different orthodontic systems that can straighten teeth, usually within a relatively short period of time. Systems such as Invisalign can deliver results within a year, while others such as Social 6 are even quicker, as they are more cosmetically oriented and concentrate on only moving teeth that are visible when smiling.

The advantage of choosing braces over veneers is that your teeth will not need to be prepared. Most veneers do need a small amount of tooth material to be removed, and although the amount is typically just 0.5mm it is gone for good. It is always best to try to preserve your existing teeth whenever possible, and orthodontic treatment is more conservative than veneering. The disadvantage of orthodontics over veneers is the length of time required for treatment, as veneering is generally a little quicker to complete.

Veneers may also be a good option if your teeth have a less than pleasing shape, or if they are discoloured through tetracycline use, or due to excess exposure to fluoride as a child. Teeth can also become discoloured due to root canal therapy. In this case straightening them with orthodontic treatment will still leave you with the problem of how to mask their shape and colour. However it can often be well worth while using a combination of both treatments, as this will minimise the number of veneers required, and will give you a beautifully straight and healthy smile.
