A recent report from Public Health England has shown that more than a quarter of five year olds have tooth decay, and even though this might sound shocking, it is actually a decline compared to previous figures. The survey used data collected from 133,000 dental check-ups, and found that 27% of five year olds had one or more decayed teeth, compared to 30% back in 2008.
This shows there is still room for improvement, especially as some 3% of children with tooth decay had to have teeth extracted, a process that is carried out under general anaesthetic in hospital. Undergoing such an experience while still very young is unlikely to make these children fans of visiting the dentist, and regular dental care is vitally important in helping adult teeth to last a lifetime.
Dr Rik Trivedi and his dental team are very keen on preventative dental care, and can really help parents who may be struggling with getting their children into a regular routine of teeth cleaning. We can help to lessen the chance of dental cavities in your children’s teeth through the application of dental sealants that are used to cover up the chewing surfaces of their teeth, as well as topical applications of fluoride to help harden their teeth. Your dentist in Kent can also help if you find it difficult to seek dental care.
Gentle Dental Care for all the Family
If you suffer from dental phobias and fears, then there is the chance that you could inadvertently pass this on to your own children, as they are likely to pick up on your reluctance to have dental treatment and could grow up viewing dental care as something to be feared. Dr Trivedi is also very good at dealing with nervous patients, and can offer additional sedation where necessary; all you have to do is ask us for help. Parrock Dental and Implant Centre often see people who have previously felt too nervous to visit the dentist for years, or even decades. It is possible to overcome these fears, and to go on to get the smile you’d really like, and sedation dentistry could even help you to have dental implants in Kent.
